Berkshire Homes and Outdoor Spaces | BIRCH Properties Blog

People visit the Berkshires, fall in love with the landscape, culture and community and move here...often

The ground beneath us, and the gorgeous rural New England environment we are fortunate to call home, sets the stage for each of our dreams of HOME.  Our Berkshire Hills, punctuated with open meadows, rivers, ponds, brooks and lakes have inspired home owners, designers and gardeners since the early days of Berkshire Life. We are fortunate to have wonderfully preserved examples throughout the county offering history and inspiration.

The Mission House in Stockbridge, an early garden preserved by The Trustees of Reservations, to Reed Hildebrand's innovative and pristine design for the expansion of the Clark Art Museum in Williamstown to Edith Wharton's home The Mount to the remains of the Ashintully Gardens established by composer John Stewart McClennan Jr and countless more, both public and private.

Admittedly a garden enthusiast, when I first returned to the Berkshires, post-college as a weekender, I dove into gardening head first. Our Berkshire Botanical Garden is an amazing resource of demonstration gardens and workshops, local nurseries offer both rare plants and native and ecologically focused guidance. That was not enough for me so I then attended graduate school in Landscape Design and established my own firm - Selina Lamb, Ltd. with a focus on master planning and fine gardens.

Sharing perspective and thinking on garden restoration, maintenance and ecological sustainability of our home landscapes, small or writ large, is one aspect of real estate work I truly treasure.

And as a company we are fortunate to present a number of homes with truly spectacular settings and grounds.

As in-town estates go, 101 & 107 Yokun Ave in Lenox is a rare example of modern life in one of the original Berkshire Cottages. Set on 44 original acres and neighboring preserved land, the dramatic southerly and westerly views are nearly identical to those one would have seen in the 1880s. Minutes to Lenox's downtown restaurants and shops as well as Tanglewood, this property's elegant canvas of vistas, historic trees and architecture await your inspiration for it's next iteration.

In Becket, you'll find a counterpoint to Lenox's historic homes. Deeply respectful of the woodland setting and it's history, this BANCROFT RD property, at it's heart, is all about the land. 250-acres, of which the majority is enrolled in a forestry management program. The light footprint of the just completed home and barn are nearly fully sustainable and run nearly entirely on it's own solar power.

But, if what you really dream of are walled gardens... two exist - on either side of a masterful mill conversion in Great Barrington

- 410 Park... a historic building nestled in the heart of the community.

Creating your dream outdoor space from scratch is also a possibility here in the Berkshires!

If you are considering building from the ground up, this property located on one of the prettiest roads in South County,  15 Konkapot Rd in New Marlborough offers you the best of both worlds:  the opportunity to design the ideal outside living space that compliments your lifestyle, AND use of the private community swimming pool and tennis courts.

One of the last available lots in the coveted Colgate Farms Home Owners Association, there are 6.76 private acres that are fully ready to build your 4 bedroom dream home in the Berkshires.

  • The lovely driveway approach has already been established
  • The sewer and well have already been excavated
  • Power has already been brought in from the road

Your property at Konkapot Rd. lies just east of the pool and tennis area offering easy access to these wonderful amenities - a truly rare find in South County.

The Colgate Farms facilities include a charming pool house with kitchen and dining area, changing rooms and both indoor and outdoor showers.

ABOUT SELINA

Selina serves on the Williams College Parents Fund Committee and co-chaired the Emma Willard School Parents Fund Committee. In addition to gardening, she enjoys painting, and outdoor activities like skiing, and playing tennis.

Selina Lamb is a study in contrasts — analytical yet creative, fun yet serious-minded, easygoing yet a fierce marketer and negotiator. She synthesizes years of experience in Berkshires' real estate; a liberal arts education from Williams College; a successful career at top U.S. fashion houses; and experience founding a nationally recognized landscape design firm into a real estate consultancy that centers around client well-being. Repeats and referrals comprise 98% of her business, and review after review mentions her market knowledge, vast network, warm sense of humor, and presence in her clients’ lives long after the deal has closed.

As a real estate partner, Selina aims to make people feel at home during each moment of the transaction, whether they’re seeking residential, commercial, or land development opportunities. A longtime Berkshires resident, she works tirelessly to plug her buyers into the community, ensuring they have every professional and resource they need to create fulfilling lives here. In addition, she leverages her expansive global network and marketing expertise to get her sellers’ properties maximum views, visits, and offers. Her future-forward service features tech, design, analysis, and humanity in equal measure — making it highly personalized and undeniably modern.

Selina’s unique approach comes from the circuitous path that brought her to real estate and back to the Berkshires. After graduating from Williams, Selina held executive roles for the likes of Tommy Hilfiger, J. Crew, and Polo Ralph Lauren. During that time, she would escape to her Berkshire house on weekends to find delight in her garden, which inspired her to earn a graduate degree in site planning and landscape design. She eventually let go of her New York City address permanently and founded her acclaimed landscape design firm, which has been featured by Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, and HGTV.

Selina’s design experience makes her an expert in envisioning clear and practicable solutions for presenting properties to their very best advantage, from staging to photography and beyond. For buyers and sellers, her wide breadth of knowledge of local regulations and permitting processes make her an invaluable resource.
